Santa Ana protects 2,000 acres of thorn forest and wetlands along the Rio Grande and is regularly ranked among the best birding destinations in the United States. Resident green jays, chachalacas, and great kiskadees are close to guaranteed, and the first Sunday of each month waives the fee. Trails are open sunrise to sunset every day, and the visitor center runs from 8am to 4pm. Standard entry is $5 per vehicle, or $10 for a yearly pass.
