The Season in Weslaco
Weslaco's Winter Texan parks spread along Business 83 and the farm roads south of town, and the Mid-Valley activity circuit of park dances, jams, and the Don-Wes Flea Market on the Donna line runs all season. Estero Llano Grande State Park on the south edge of town is many birders' favorite of the World Birding Center sites: shallow wetlands, boardwalks, and a reliable pauraque if a volunteer points you to the right patch of leaves. Frontera Audubon's thicket downtown is the quick version when you have an hour.
This is farm country in the best way. The Texas 1015 sweet onion came out of the Texas A&M research station here, and roadside produce in February costs what it should.
What to Know Before You Book
Weslaco itself is modest on shopping. There's an H-E-B and the basics, but the mall run means Harlingen or McAllen, each about twenty-five minutes out. Most folks here call that a fair trade for lower lot rent and the shortest drive to the border bridge in the Valley.
